All about the Administration
By: Viper12 (Hooters)
HVPB is a game with over 30,000 registered players. It needs administrators to keep things running smoothly. There are four levels of administrators in HVPB.
Newbie Helpers (commonly called NH's) have blue names. These players are responsible for helping new players learn how to play the game. They also have the power to reset the number of games you are allowed to play per day. NH's can also shut players for spamming or cursing. These administrators can usually be found on Area 51 or The Training Grounds. If you are a new player, these people are the ones to look for.
Tournament Managers (commonly called TM's) have neon green names. These players are responsible for running tournaments. They have all the powers that NH's do, plus additional commands that allow them to run tournaments. They can usually be found on The Afterlife.
Administrators (commonly called level 90's even though they are not actually level 90's) have teal names. These players can be found on any of the hvpb servers. They are responsible for making sure everything runs smoothly. They handle player problems, lost passwords, lost money, lost equipment, and many many other everyday problems. They have all the powers of NH and TM, and some additional powers to check the logs. Logs are documents that detail everything from transactions to logins. Admins use them to help solve problems, and check for people trying to cheat the system.
The final level of administration is the level 95 or level 99. These players run all facets of HVPB. They manage the servers that HVPB run on, and pay all the bills so that you guys can keep on splatting. They are in charge of promotions/demotions and just about anything else you can think of. They can lock or unlock characters, give out strikes if you have been bad, or completely ban you from hvpb. These guys have an extremely busy job that is full of complaints and problems.
Here is a list of the current administration:

I have been playing online paintball for about 6 years now. In December of 2003 i was promoted NH. My first impression of administration was something like this, "OMFG IM AN ADMIN OMFG!" I thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread. Shortly into my career ad NH I realized that it wasn't all fun and games. I spent countless hours helping new players who seemed to barely know how to operate a keyboard. After that I learned that being an administrator changes your relationship with your teammates and friends on HVPB. People expect to be treated differently because they are your teammates or buddy. I lost quite a few friends and teammates on HVPB because of shutting them when they cussed. I would never try to talk anyone out of wanting to become an admin. Personally I love my current job as a level 90. In this section, I will provide you with some tips on what to do, and what not to do. Good Luck !
Have fun. HVPB is here for one reason . . . fun. If you cannot have fun without being an admin, you will not have fun as an admin.
Play for the good of the game. When people need help, give it to them. I can distinctly remember certain hvpb players helping me out. Confidential basically spent about 2 hours each night teaching me how to play Freeguns. He could have been on the other server getting splats, but instead he ran me through hundreds of simulations, teaching me different techniques. Things like this improve the quality of game play, and allow everyone to have more fun.
Understand that every hvpb player cannot be promoted.
Be yourself. I am not going to tell you to be nice and help new players if that's not who you are. Helping new players is a must for admins. They have to be honest, mature, and loyal. If that doesn't sound like you, then just be yourself and have fun.
Lead by example. If you really want to be an admin, then set an example for other players. Leadership is a highly esteemed quality for an admin.
Don't beg.
Don't set a bad example. Bad examples are easy to see and will ruin your chances.
Don't ask admins for an endorsement. I get a lot of people asking me to endorse them for adminship every day. Don't do it please.
Don't do anything illegal. This statement should not be necessary but many people who have said they wanted to be an admin have duped money or done something illegal on the game to ruin their chances.
Don't send multiple emails stating that you should be promoted.
Don't post notes in the forum about why you should be promoted.
Don't whine if you are not selected.
Just like everyone else, admin have to follow rules too. Here are some general guidelines for admins.
Tournament Manager Rules.
1) no Minis with 10+ on unless 90% of the server agrees.
2) no "for worth" minis
3) no minis that would cause a player's worth to be less than 10k
4) If someone says wait in chat and you see it, dont spite them just because they didnt say it in a tell
5) if someone says Wait in a tell within 10 seconds of a tourn game starting, and no splats have occured, go ahead and redo
6) dont keep someone banned for long if they show improvement in character
7) Remember that you are there for the players; the players arent there for you to exercise your powers on.
8) Any rules you make for the players, you must follow as well.
9) if someone wants to play, and it's X vs X, if you can squeeze them in and make the teams still even, try to do it.
10) $3500 tourn limit
11) Rematches are ok, if 75% of the people on the server agree to the rematch.
12) When you mess up, and you need to refund people, YOU refund them, then ask a 95+ for reimbursement. do NOT send them to us for a refund.
13) Non-paying players are *not* allowed to donate money to tourns.
14)You are not allowed to start and end games asap to change maps. Don't cheat this by asap'ing, having the person log, and doing it over and over.
15)If a game is ended when both teams agree, and suddenly one team realizes splats weren't tied and they lost, it counts. It is their fault for not counting the splats before requesting an end.
