Sniper Strategy

by: Pizza

Well this is for those of you who would like to try sniper but just don't know how/what to do.

Getting setup:
I would start off with tennis shoes, the highest rank sniper rifle you can get, sonic helmet, and of course the suit. Now the suit you choose is up to what you think is best camo. I believe that rural suit with insul and mtn camo is best, however if you do not have enough for insul best bet is to go rural suit mtn hill.

Knowing the Equipment:
Now each part of the setup is unique and very important. Starting off with tennis, these are quick, and block sonic vision(you should know that scouts, snipers, and engineers also get sonic, so without tennis they would all see you in any terrain). Next would be the sonic vision, which you know can see anyone in terrain that doesn't have sound dampening tennis shoes (HW and Engi don't have tennis, and some scouts use cleats, which means no sound dampener, and valley and desert both block sonic). Next up is the rifle. the R5 rifle is obviously the best, with far range but high reload. Although this weapon is great for long distance shots you cannot see within a certain number of spaces, so look out for that. The best ammo to use is Fast armor-piercing, unless you can't afford the high prices. Then you want to go with regular fast. Also you could add another rifle, my favorite, the R2 sniper rifle. This allows you to shoot in close up battles with better reload. Now the last part of the setup would be insulation, if it's affordable. What it does is blocks out thermal vision, which is seeing through mountains and hills.

In game:
Well against each class I play it different.
We'll start off with the speed demons, the scouts. Most r5 scouts don't use tennis shoes. This means you can play almost anywhere and keep an eye on them. You should try to pick them off quick, or else they will come too close for you to see. This is where I like the R2 rifle, great for when you need to get quick, close shots off. Scouts have Scouting Helmets(can see pretty far) with thermal, gamma, and sonic. So they can pretty much see you wherever you are, unless you have insul, then it's only in forrest or in the open.

Next off would be the slow but deadly Heavy Weapons. This class can shoot very far with speed, however they move very slow. Most heavy weapons should be an easy splat, unless they are close up, then you better run. Although they are slow they could be hard to shoot on a single shot, so at times lead them 1 or 2 spaces(leading = shooting ahead or behind..). This class has a regular helmet with scope but also uses either thermal or gamma. Once again, insul will help you be protected from the thermal, but gamma I'd watch out for.

Engineers are fast, yet almost pointless against snipers. As a sniper this should be a guarenteed splat. Engineers can lay turrets and bots, however they don't have sound dampener and they have sonic vision. As long as you can keep track with the bots it should be simple. I suggest letting the bots go, unless they are too close, then you want to shoot them. But leaving bots and staying off sat will keep the engi guessing where you are. Most times you could either shoot them from far, or hand nade them from close up(they can't see you because of tennis remember).

Now we'll go to Vet Trooper. This class has pretty good vision, a rilfe that can see you almost at your max range, and speed with sound dampening. However their assault rifle which acts like a sniper rifle and a lot of range is limited on reload. So 1v1 through terrain you should have them. Watch for the electronic rifle in open, it is better reload and just barely makes it to you with fast paint. Also make sure you stay clear of turrets, other than that it should be simple to do. Scouts only have a mounted scope, so they can see far, but nother else that special.

Infil, now this is a tricky one. The only things I could say is to learn how the infils play, then try guessing them as they are invis. Either that or you could sit in mountains with insulation, since they have thermal. They also have gamma, so watch out in trees/forrest. Another way to splat them is to stay by turrets, always a good idea, or if there aren't any go away from your team and wait for the infil to shoot someone, then you can snipe the infil.

Now sniper...Sniper is a rough class to go 1v1 with. you want to keep moving, however don't move too much. You also want to try to move then shoot while the other sniper shoots where they think you'd move. Doing this can cause the other sniper to not be able to move quick enough, however don't keep moving in the same pattern. It's always a good idea to get on mountains or hills behind forrest or trees to snipe another sniper. This makes it so they can't see you, unless they are on another mtn or hill. Overall I'd say that this is the most troubling.

Last is Officer. Officers have mounted scope and thermal + gamma. This means you better not get too close in any terrain. Officers have rockets and grenades, plus turrets and bots. Very hard to beat. However in the open you should be able to shoot an officer, you just have to plan the lead perfect.

Now playing 5v5 is much different than a 1v1. Usually I like to go on the attack, think of a smarter way to get to the other team and not be seen either on sat or by a sniper. Now this is rough to keep up to, but if you can do it properly you should be able to do a lot of damage. If there are infils I suggest staying back and sit with turret for a little, or waiting for the team to come to you. The biggest thing to watch is nades from heavy weapons and other snipers.

Welp, I hope anyone who reads this can learn a thing or two and if anyone has something to add please feel free to.
