How to Start and Manage a Team
By Viper12
Once you are a paying player in hvpb, you have the opportunity to start your own team. Starting your own team isn’t for everyone; it takes a lot of work to keep a team going. However, all of the work is worth it, starting your own team can be one of the most rewarding experiences on hvpb.
To start your own team first you need a name. You want something people will remember. Once you have chosen a name hit ctrl t. Type in the name and hit “create team” You now have your very own team! Now you need to find players.
Finding players is tricky. The ideal player for your new team is a player who doesn’t play very many tournaments. Tournaments take a lot of time, and players who only play tournaments don’t get very many splats. Usually lower level chars will shy away from tourns. Don’t get discouraged if you can’t fill your team right away. I was the only player on my team for a very long time. The best thing that you can do is to stick with it. Don’t be one of those players who make a team and quit it, make another team and quit it. If you want to attract other players, you need to show them that you are serious about building a competitive and lasting team. There is no fast way to do this, just persevere. Also be optimistic when you ask people to join your team. “Would you like to be part of one of the newest and most exciting teams in HVPB?” sounds much better than, “I’m looking for players to join my team, I really need help.”
Once you have players, you need to keep them. One of the most attractive things about a team for any player is that the team is active. Being the only person who plays out of twenty others is discouraging. Keep your players morale up. Congratulate them when your team hits milestones such as 1000 splats 10000 splats and so on. Hold contests with cash prizes.
Find leaders. The best way to keep your team going is to have more than one leader. You can’t be online twenty-four hours a day. Find a few solid, honest, and dedicated players to help lead your team.
Give them the ranks they earn. Promote your leaders and give them the tools they need to help your team rise to the top. Under the ranks section of the team screen you can give each rank different team powers. Don’t give your newly enlisted lowest level members the ability to kick others. Only give that ability to people you trust. I speak from experience.
A lot of players will ask to be paid to be on your team. This is a pointless undertaking. They aren’t going to be dedicated to your team, and they aren’t going to get many more splats than someone else. If someone asks you this, tell them about your contests that reward active players.
Starting my own team has been one of my most rewarding experiences on hvpb. I would highly recommend that new players give it a try. Remember . . . perseverance is the key.
